Salmonella
Reported 04 June 2026Spread through contaminated food and water
As of 4 June 2026, a total of 70 confirmed Salmonella cases were reported in travellers from England, Scotland and Wales who have visited Cape Verde since 1 October 2025. Please see UKHSA guidance for further information on Salmonella.

Shigella sonnei
Reported 05 February 2026Reduce your risk while travelling
As of 5 February 2026, a total of 112 confirmed Shigella sonnei cases were reported in travellers from England, Scotland and Wales who have visited to Cape Verde since 1 October 2025. Most of these travellers visited Santa Maria and Boa Vista. Previously, a Shigella sonnei outbreak was reported in Cape Verde in 2022, with cases in travellers from European countries, including the UK. Malaria

As of 21 August 2025, a total of 16 locally acquired cases of malaria have been reported in the City of Praia.
