Vaccinations and immunisation records for US university admission
Many American and overseas universities require proof of vaccination before you can enrol. We provide the vaccines you need, advise on titre blood tests and complete your immunisation record form so you can start your course on time.
Meet your university's health requirements
US universities ask for an immunisation record before enrolment
Before you can register for classes or move into halls, most US universities ask you to submit a completed immunisation or student health form. It typically asks for evidence of MMR, a Tdap booster, meningitis ACWY, varicella (chickenpox) immunity, hepatitis B and tuberculosis screening, with some campuses adding flu and COVID-19.
At Altrincham Travel Clinic in Timperley we help students from across Manchester meet these requirements in one place. Bring the form your university sent you and we will give the vaccines you need, advise on antibody (titre) blood tests where proof of immunity is required, and document everything clearly. Requirements vary by university and by US state, so always check your own form and book early, as several vaccines need multiple doses or blood tests over a number of weeks.
What you may need
Commonly required vaccines
The list below covers the vaccines and screening US universities most often request. Your exact requirements depend on your institution and state, so check your form and tell us what it asks for.
MMR
Almost always required
Most US universities require evidence of two documented doses of MMR or laboratory proof of immunity to measles, mumps and rubella.
Tdap / Tetanus booster
Commonly required
A Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) booster within the last 10 years is widely required. We give the booster and document the date.
Meningitis ACWY
Campus requirement
Often mandatory for students living on campus, with many universities requiring a dose given on or after the 16th birthday.
Varicella (Chickenpox)
Proof of immunity
Two documented doses or laboratory proof of immunity. If you have had chickenpox, a titre blood test can confirm immunity.
Hepatitis B
Multi-dose course
A course of three doses over several weeks or months. Start early, as the full schedule cannot be completed at the last minute.
Polio booster
Sometimes required
Some institutions ask for an up-to-date polio booster. We can review your history and top up where needed.
Flu / COVID-19
Some campuses
A number of US campuses require an annual flu vaccine and/or up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination, especially for residential students.
TB screening
Screening test
Many universities require tuberculosis screening (a TB risk assessment and, where indicated, a blood or skin test) before enrolment.
Paperwork, handled
We complete your immunisation form
Bring the official immunisation or student health form your university provides and we will fill it in for you. We document every dose we give, transcribe any historical vaccinations you can evidence, and have a clinician sign and stamp the form so it is ready to submit.
- Vaccine name, batch number, dose and date recorded clearly
- Historical doses transcribed where you can provide records
- Advice on titre / antibody blood tests where proof of immunity is needed
- Clinician-signed and stamped form ready for your student portal
Start early
Plan ahead for multi-dose courses
Some requirements cannot be met at the last minute. Hepatitis B, for example, is a course of three doses given over several weeks to months, and titre blood tests take time to process. Aim to start two to three months before your enrolment date.
- Hepatitis B is a multi-dose course over weeks to months
- Start 2-3 months before enrolment wherever possible
- Accelerated schedules available where appropriate
- Time to arrange titre blood tests if proof of immunity is required

FAQ
University vaccination FAQs
Requirements vary by university and by US state, but most commonly include two documented doses of MMR, a Tdap booster, meningitis ACWY, varicella (chickenpox) immunity, hepatitis B and tuberculosis screening. Some campuses also require flu and COVID-19 vaccination. Always check the specific immunisation form your university sends you, as the exact list and accepted dates differ between institutions.
Yes, this is one of the most common requirements. Universities usually accept either two documented doses of MMR given at least 28 days apart, or a titre (antibody) blood test showing immunity to measles, mumps and rubella. If your childhood records are missing, we can advise on testing or simply giving the doses again, which is safe.
A titre test is a blood test that measures the level of antibodies against a disease such as measles, varicella or hepatitis B. It is used to prove existing immunity when vaccination records are missing or when the university requests laboratory evidence rather than dose dates. We can advise on which titres your form requires and arrange the blood tests.
Hepatitis B is a course of three doses spread over weeks to months, so ideally start two to three months before enrolment. Where time is short, an accelerated schedule may be appropriate so that the early doses are completed before you travel, with the final dose given later. Booking early gives you the most flexibility.
Yes. Bring the official immunisation or health form your university provides and we will document the vaccines we give, transcribe any historical doses you can evidence, and sign and stamp the form by a clinician. We can also advise where a titre blood test is needed to satisfy a proof-of-immunity section.
Many US universities require meningitis ACWY, particularly for students living in halls or on campus, and often specify that the dose must have been given on or after your 16th birthday. Check your form for the exact wording. If your existing dose is too old or was given earlier, you may need a fresh booster.
You will receive a clear, signed record of every vaccine we administer, including the vaccine name, batch, date and clinician details, and we will complete the relevant sections of your university form. You can use these documents to upload or submit proof to your university's student health portal.
We provide tuberculosis screening, including a TB risk assessment and, where indicated, arranging the appropriate blood test, which many universities accept as evidence. Requirements differ between institutions and US states, so check whether your university asks for a specific test or simply a screening declaration.
