Dengue
Reported 23 April 2026Spread by mosquito bites
As of 22 March 2026, 36,007 suspected cases of dengue have been reported in Bolivia since the start of 2026. This represents a large increase compared to the same period in 2025. Serotypes DENV1 and DENV2 have been recorded.
There's a vaccine for this
Spread by daytime-biting mosquitoes. Use a DEET repellent, cover up, and stay somewhere with screens or air-conditioning.
Yellow fever

Between 1 January and 21 April 2026, a total of five cases of yellow fever have been reported in Bolivia with two deaths.

Zika

As of 28 March 2026, a total of 1,168 cases of Zika virus disease have been reported in Bolivia since the start of 2026. This represents a large increase compared to the same period in 2025. 1,224 cases were recorded for the whole of 2025.

Avoid daytime mosquito bites. If you're pregnant or planning pregnancy, discuss travel with us first, and use condoms as Zika can pass sexually.
Chikungunya

As of 13 March 2026, 5,371 cases of chikungunya have been reported from Bolivia in 2026. Cases have been reported from the departments of Santa Cruz (4,500), Cochabamba (303), Tarija (332), Chuquisaca (81) and La Paz (68).

Hantavirus
Reported 22 December 2025Reduce your risk while travelling
As of 15 November 2025, 48 cases of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (including 11 deaths) have been reported in Bolivia during 2025. This total doubles the average reported in 2023 and 2024. Cases have been recorded in the Departments of La Paz, Tarija, Beni and Santa Cruz with 93% being exposed in rural areas. Please see UKHSA guidance for more details on hantavirus.
