Zika

As of 4 August 2026, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have reported three laboratory-confirmed Zika virus infections in US travellers for whom Fiji was the only destination visited. The cases were confirmed in May 2025, March and June 2026.

Avoid daytime mosquito bites. If you're pregnant or planning pregnancy, discuss travel with us first, and use condoms as Zika can pass sexually.
HIV

A 2025 United Nations report has highlighted the dangers of unsafe practices amongst injecting drug users in Fiji and the contribution this has made in fuelling the sharp rise of new HIV infections. There has been a 10-fold increase in people living with HIV in Fiji between 2014 (500 cases) and 2024 (5,900 cases). Preliminary data from the Ministry of Health for 2024 shows around half of those receiving antiretroviral therapy contracted HIV through sharing needles.
